Volkswagen started building the Samba in 1951 as the top version of the split-window T1, marketed in the US as the Microbus Deluxe. It had bi-parting side doors in place of a sliding door and a fuller dashboard than the regular T1. Volkswagen advertised it for tourist trips through the Alps. This car is a 1957 Volkswagen Deluxe Microbus in red over a cream interior.
