The first-generation Type 2, with its split windshield, was built from March 1950 to the end of the 1967 model year. The Deluxe Microbus joined the range in June 1951. Known as the Samba, it carried eight high windows in the roof and could be ordered with a large fabric sunroof. Standard Samba paint was two-tone.
