John Cooper saw the competition potential of the Mini, and the Mini Cooper debuted in September 1961 with twin SU carburettors, a closer-ratio gearbox and front disc brakes. The Cooper S added a bigger engine and larger disc brakes. The 1,071 cc Cooper S ran until August 1964, with 4,030 made, and 970 cc and 1,275 cc versions followed. In 1964 UK Minis moved to Hydrolastic suspension. Here we have a 1964 Mini Cooper S in red over a red and grey interior.
