The second-generation Town Car was launched on October 5, 1989, as a 1990 model, with an extensive redesign inside and out. Its more contemporary look brought it in line with the Continental and Mark VII. The Town Car name came from a limousine body style. For 1997 the rear center armrest gained a pair of cup holders.
