Cadillac downsized the De Ville for 1977, its 75th anniversary, making it over 9 inches shorter and half a ton lighter, with more headroom, legroom and trunk space. These were the first De Villes sold without rear fender skirts. For 1978 slim vertical tail lamps were set into chrome bumper end caps, with a redesigned grille and hood ornament.
