For 1956 the Bel Air got a more conventional full-width grille, replacing the Ferrari-inspired 1955 front end. A Corvette engine was available in a full-size Chevrolet for the first time. Sales material that year even listed an optional rain-sensing automatic top, first seen on the 1951 LeSabre concept. This example is a 1956 Bel Air convertible set up with hydraulics, with an automatic gearbox.
