The Kübelwagen name comes from Kübelsitzwagen, bucket-seat car, because the first test cars had no doors and used bucket seats. Based heavily on the Beetle, the Type 82 entered full production in February 1940. Portal reduction hubs gave it about 11 inches of ground clearance and let it crawl as slow as marching troops. Cars built before March 1943 used a 985 cc engine. This example is a 1942 Volkswagen Kübelwagen in grey over a grey interior.
